It serves a broader segment of the technology needs. Computer software consists of three types, programming software, system software and application software. Programming software is used to help programmers to write computer programs. System software facilitates the implementation of computer systems, for example, Mac, Linux, Microsoft Windows.

How and Why to Register Copyrights

The application software makes the user’s computer accomplish different tasks that have no connection to computer development. Copyright issues are very significant here and the software is copyrighted to check for illegal copying of the software.  This allows the software to be used by licensees in connection with certain terms and conditions, but others are restricted from using, modifying, sharing etc. One decent copyright license for computer software is an open source license that contains source code as well and almost anyone can use it. The source code can be evaluated and changed by the user to fit their own needs i.e. customization. The benefit of subscribing to open source licenses is that they are generally open at no cost, allowing for changes, resets and the use of money-making without the requirement to pay the original creator. Amendments to the source code for personal use or only permitting non-commercial resets are permitted as the only measure by some open source licenses. Copyright services ensure the protection of computer software as a work of literature, but cannot be patented. If the software combines with the hardware then it cannot be granted a patent, just the opposite.

LEGAL PROTECTION OF COMPUTER SOFTWARE

The new thing depends not on the software code but on the product. To obtain software protection, form 4 must be applied (application for copyright registration). Form 4 includes special statements as well as further cross-statements (abbreviated as SOP and SOFP respectively). When filling this out, form 4 requirements must be followed clearly and relevantly. Over-writing and relevance should be avoided. “Not applicable” must be written for an empty answer in form 4.  A single creative work consists of every single copyright application. In the case of more than one job, the applicant must submit a separate copyright request at the copyright office. Other considerations for copyright protection of the software depend on the methodology involved in the software and the source code used. If necessary, new source code can be created and /or edit existing source code used in the software.
